UK 2023

A wonderful couple of days of adventure being tourists in London.

Today we again jumped on the tube heading to portobello markets. It funny that have heard the name portobello markets for ever but have never been.

I know all about the pretty streets with their coloured terrace houses but not the markets.
Predominantly an antique market but we saw little evidence of that. Perhaps that happens on the weekends
Portobello road is closed for the street market but it is really designed for the tourist( like us I know)
Souvenir shops mainly with exception of the Notting Hill bookshop that we may remember  from that movie??

Had coffee, people watched for a bit then headed to the science museum, which was fab. Several old steam engines, a section on clocks and history of medicine.
Surrounded by noisy schoolchildren, we decided to leave, but Having said that we had been there for a few hours.

Arrived home in time for Harry to finish work and Glenn and Carol to arrive.

We all had a great night at a smokehouse around the corner from Harry’s place.
Everything is around the corner from him.

Tuesday.
Harry went off to work and left us to our own adventures.

Jumped on a bus and headed to Tower bridge, we are going inside for a bit of a look around.
They tend to have a few bridge openings most days and we have timed our visit so we can see that.
Apart from that, it was great to wander around and learn the history of the bridge.
We also had the opportunity to see the engine room as well. Squeaky clean…

Next on the agenda is the HMS Belfast.
She is a cruiser used in WW2 and the Korean War.
I always find this interesting trying to imagine and the men lived on board.
Time spent in the engine and boiler rooms which I tried to understand and then up to the hospital and living areas.
They have also recreated the kitchens, pantries and storage areas.

Had a coffee and then walked along the Queensway towards London bridge and also the Borough Market. This time it’s purely a food market.

Thought we might get a couple of things for dinner at home.
So terribly busy that we didn’t stay long. I’m glad we went but just too busy.

Quiet night at home, which was lovely.

I will sign off here on my blog.
Tomorrow our Harry has an afternoon off so we can do some things together.
We re going to head out to Greenwich for the afternoon and then ferry back in the evening.
The day after, Thursday we will head home.
I have had a fabulous holiday but now it’s time for home and I am excited.
See you soon.
